Last night's formation...
Looked distinctly 4-4-2 at times, all be it with the 4 playing as a diamond.

Either Sam now thinks has the best two strikers in the league, or a bit of bluff earlier in the week.

Last time we played diamond formation we played some cracking football under Zola too. Long may it continue.

Also Downing playing central was surprising, but very good...and will only get better.

Also the zip will come with practice and confidence...it's a big departure after all from what we have been doing, and if the manager's not confident in that style of play I doubt the players will be yet.

Seeing Downing charge through the middle was a revelation.

Could be that Sam changed it up for this game only, knowing that Hull lack pace in the middle? Risky though as Hull's full backs are so potent, particularly Elmohamady..,

Agree Costa. For that we need to lose Noble really. He's got a good range of passing given time but a liability when pressed quickly.

As others have said, hopefully Song collecting it from the back 4 will make the difference.

Just like to see a bit more zip and pace in the passing.....or very slow at times...also am i the only one who gets nervous when our back four starting knocking the ball around between them!!

Re: Last night's formation...
The forwards ran the channels, but by and large last night fullbacks we're the widest players. But for once we looked mobile as a team with players not sticking rigidly to their spot on the pitch.

With Downing central who was out wise on his side? Just the full back?

Shame we can't string 3 passes together.
